Our History

Since 2006, the Lemhi Forest Restoration Group (LFRG) has worked to collaboratively design three landscape scale restoration projects in Central Idaho’s High Divide. Our strength has been in our ability to be inclusive of a cross-section of stakeholders. Our belief that conservation must include local economic and social benefit has helped our organization gain credibility and support in Lemhi County, an area known for its significant conflicts over natural resource issues.

Our Partners

LRFG volunteers have spent thousands of hours working side by side with Salmon-Challis national Forest (SCNF) staff to develop sound restoration proposals. During LFRG’s first eight years, the relationship between the SCNF and our community has become more unified and based on a mutual concern for the existing conditions of our local forest and economy. Long-term benefits emphasize a better understanding of forest restoration efforts, and therefore enable a higher degree of community support.

Amazing Volunteers and Citizens

The backbone of our collaborative is the tremendous support from community members and volunteers who spend their time and energy on conservation and forest restoration efforts. Many of these folks live over 150 miles away but are committed to participating in the health of our national forest lands.

Salmon Valley Stewardship

Salmon Valley Stewardship (SVS), an independent nonprofit organization based in Salmon, has acted as the coordinator of our collaborative since the LFRG’s inception in 2006. SVS works to promote a sustainable economy and a healthy environment in the Salmon River Region. SVS is headquartered in the City of Salmon.
